He has been performing here since the age of 14 and has been privileged to learn from many of Detroit’s greatest musicians including Marcus Belgrave, Geri Allen, and Robert Hurst among many others.   Ian has shared the stage with artists such as Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington, Benny Golson, Savion Glover, Rhonda Ross, and Dee Dee Bridgewater. He is a member of Shigeto Live Ensemble, and founding member of Duality/Detroit, a weekly residency since January 2016, that takes place every Wednesday at Motor City Wine in Detroit. In 2018, Ian received the "Spirit of Detroit Award" for his participation in the 2018 Detroit Jazz Festival Alumni Band. Above all, he is proud to be a member and a student of Detroit’s music legacy and to be among the lineage of jazz musicians raised in this city.

DUALITY DETROIT VOL.1

shares with the listeners memorable moments from Ian’s Wednesday's residency at Motor City Wine Detroit since January 2016. Sitting in on congas is legendary Detroit producer and DJ Dez Andrés. This is the first collection of recordings of Duality/Detroit.

Released December 5, 2018

The Middle Birth EP highlights Ian’s dual talents as a producer and instrumentalist. Side A features two electronic cuts, “Middle Birth” and “Mort Crim” with Ian playing live drums and bass on the latter. SIDE B showcases Ian’s jazz quartet; he is joined by several of Detroit’s most talented young musicians: Marcus Elliot on sax, Ben Rolston on bass, and Alex White on drums.
